Organisers of this year’s fbe East Midlands Awards, which recognise and reward some of the region’s best construction projects, have announced the guest speaker for the 2018 Chairman’s Awards Dinner.

Maria Coulter, aka The Construction Coach, is an award-winning coach who works with SMEs and micro-businesses to help them maximise profits and stand out from their competition. A chartered quantity surveyor, whose career evolved into project management and risk management, Maria became a qualified personal and business coach in 2012.

She won the Nottingham Post’s Women in Business Construction Award and was a finalist in the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce Rising Star Award. In addition, Maria, who has been a judge for the RICS Awards, wrote an online course for the CIOB on ethics in building, which also won an award. In her speech to the fbe East Midlands Awards, she will be providing inspiration for and celebrating the construction industry.

“My theme will be about change and what we need to do as an industry going forward, and I am delighted to have been asked to speak at the fbe East Midlands Awards, which is one of the region’s key awards ceremonies and networking events for the construction and development sector,” added Maria.

With just a few days to go before the 7th September award nomination deadline, companies are being urged to get their entries in on time as this year there will be no deadline extension.

Mitsubishi Electric is the main sponsor of the awards event, which takes place from 7pm at the Albert Hall, North Circus Street, Nottingham, on Thursday 4th October.

Duncan & Toplis has been confirmed as the sponsor for the Rising Star Award, with Survey Hub as the sponsor of the Non-Residential Award and Faithful + Gould secured as sponsor of the Residential Award.

Two sponsorship slots remain – for the Drinks Reception and the Regeneration Award. Sponsorship entitles sponsors to a table of ten, a banner stand, mention in the programme, and announcing the award winners and handing out the trophies.

“Tickets are going well – we have just five tables left – so I would encourage anyone who wants to attend to book tickets as soon as possible,” said Emma Atkins, regional chairman of the fbe East Midlands. “We would also urge anyone nominating a project to send in their entries before the strict deadline of 7th September.

“We are very pleased to have secured Maria Coulter, aka The Construction Coach, as our speaker this year. She is an inspirational speaker and will, I am sure, be providing much food for thought for the industry within the region.”

Nominations from Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire are being invited for the fbe East Midlands Awards 2018, which recognise and reward some of the best projects in the region and turn the spotlight on the sector’s rising stars.

There are four categories in the awards – Residential, Non-Residential, Regeneration and Rising Star Awards – with the best scheme crowned the overall winner.

Projects must have been completed between September 2017 and August 2018, with the Rising Star Award open to individuals, who are under 30 years of age on 4th October 2018 and who have shown outstanding achievements in their field, whether that be in construction, design or associated professional or support services for the industry.

Tickets for the black-tie event are priced £60 for fbe members, £70 for non-members, with a table of ten costing £650. Maggie’s Nottingham is the chosen charity for the 2018 fbe East Midlands Chairman’s Awards Dinner.
