Tickets are now on sale for the world’s largest gathering of Shire horses, an ideal day out for all the family. The Shire Horse Society is hosting the three-day event at Bingley Hall, Staffordshire Showground near Stafford.
Returning to the showground for 2019, the event gives visitors the opportunity to get up close and personal to the gentle giants of the horse world with stable tours as well as watching the magnificent breed dressed in all their finery in the ring.
The show, which attracts around 250 pedigree Shires from across Europe, runs from 22nd to 24th March 2019 – and is the largest gathering of Shire horses in the world.
“The Shire horse has played an immense role in our history, but as a breed it is still regarded at risk on the Rare Breeds List, with fewer than 300 pedigree Shire horse foals registered every year,” said Shire Horse Society secretary Victoria Clayton.
“Our show is a great opportunity for horse and animal lovers and those who like nostalgia to find out more about this magnificent breed, and to support the work we do, as a charity, to ensure that the Shire horse has a future.
“This will be the fourth year we have held our national show – the world’s largest gathering of Shire horses – at Staffordshire Showground, and we hope that hundreds of people will join us once again.”
Visitors will be able to browse a wide range of indoor trade stalls. New for 2019 is a dedicated food hall selling artisan and speciality foods.
Also new for the upcoming show, is The Drayman’s – a pub and bar-style venue for competitors, visitors and exhibitors. It will open on Friday 22nd March at 5pm for those wishing to purchase food and drink on site. The Drayman’s will also host an informal social evening on Saturday 23rd March from 5pm offering entertainment and food. Admission is £10 per person, with tickets available from the Shire Horse Society website.
