Contractor J Tomlinson has been selected to build a new £6 million school and nursery in Worcestershire.
The Nottingham-based company has been appointed by Place Partnership on behalf of Worcestershire County Council to build a new school that will be part of the Brockhill East Development, on the northern edge of Redditch.
Holyoakes Field First School and Nursery will transfer from its existing site to the new, purpose-built school, which will accommodate a 26-place nursery, a reception class and a class for each of years one to four. The site is next to a residential area currently under development.
J Tomlinson will build the new 2,000m2 single storey, green and zinc roofed new first school, which aims to achieve a BREEAM sustainability rating of ‘very good’.
Darroch Baker, managing director (construction) at J Tomlinson, said: “The education sector is a sector that J Tomlinson has wide experience of working in, from schools through to universities, and we are delighted to have been appointed to build this new school for Worcestershire County Council.
“The existing Holyoakes Field First School and Nursery suffers multiple issues and a very limited site area which is unsuitable for expansion. This new building will create a purpose-built, environmentally friendly school for young people, along with outside areas including a hard play area and a netball court.
“We look forward to working closely with the Council and the wider project team as we work to deliver a highly modern and sustainable school for pupils and staff.”
The contract was awarded to J Tomlinson by Place Partnership, which coordinates and delivers property services on behalf of public sector bodies including Worcestershire County Council.
Alan Moutter, project manager at Place Partnership, said: “We were impressed by the quality of J Tomlinson’s tender for this job. Our aim is to ensure a consistently high standard of delivery for our partner clients across their property assets and we are entirely confident that J Tomlinson will go above and beyond that requirement to deliver an outstanding new school and learning environment for the pupils.”
The project is the latest school contract awarded to J Tomlinson, which is currently working on a design and build contract for Leicester City Council to develop a new two-storey, four-classroom modular building block at Marriott Primary School in Leicester. J Tomlinson is also building the new £4.5 million Mease Spencer Academy in Hilton, South Derbyshire, which will cater for 210 pupils aged five to 11 and the firm recently completed the construction of Henhurst School in Burton-on-Trent.
The Holyoakes Field First School and Nursery scheme will have a timber-framed construction, with J Tomlinson retained to undertake all aspects of the development including mechanical and electrical installations.
J Tomlinson’s West Midlands office, based at Canwell, will be supporting the project, which is due to start on site in September, with completion scheduled for October 2020.
