Frozen food distributor Central Foods has launched two new plant-based burgers for the foodservice sector as demand for non-meat products continues to rise.
The KaterVeg! Beetroot, Quinoa and Seed Burger and the KaterVeg! Flamin’ Inferno Burger are both vegan and vegetarian friendly – but also designed to appeal to the increasing number of consumers opting for a flexitarian diet and looking for something a bit different, too.
Ideal for pubs, bars, takeaways, fast food outlets, cafés, hotels, universities, sports and leisure caterers and other foodservice operators, the burgers are packed with a tasty mix of ingredients which put them bang on trend for today’s consumer demands.
The 140g KaterVeg! Beetroot, Quinoa and Seed Burger is a rich purple beetroot patty, combined with quinoa, red peppers, spring onions and mixed seeds with a hint of chilli, lightly dusted with polenta, offering a great combination of colour, texture and flavour.
For the 150g KaterVeg! Flamin’ Inferno Burger we’ve taken the original spicy bean burger and pimped it up to the next level with extra chilli, peppers and paprika, and coated it with crushed, crunchy nacho chips – this is definitely dude food!
Each comes in a pack of 24 and is designed to fit either a 4” bun or give great plate coverage.
Managing director of Central Foods, Gordon Lauder, said: “The demand for plant-based food has been one of the biggest trends in foodservice in recent times. It’s partly down to more people choosing a vegan or vegetarian diet, but also partly down to consumers who are opting to reduce their meat intake and go for a more flexitarian approach to eating.
“These two new KaterVeg! burgers from Central Foods are quality products that provide a good bun filling – they don’t shrink when cooked, unlike some meat burgers – and they are guaranteed to appeal to consumers who fancy a tasty, plant-based meal that’s a bit different.”
The new burgers – part of an increasing range of free-from products launched by Central Foods for its foodservice customers in recent months – can be oven cooked, or deep fried in just 4-5 minutes, from frozen.
The Northamptonshire-based company is one of the UK’s leading frozen food distributors supplying more than 400 different lines into foodservice, ranging from vegetarian and free-from items, meat products, bakery items and canapés through to buffet products, desserts and puddings. It currently sells to more than 240 independent wholesalers, as well as larger national and regional wholesalers, and foodservice caterers across the entire foodservice industry including schools, universities, pubs, bars, restaurants, hotels, leisure centres, garden centres, cafés, care homes and many other outlets.
