The organisers of the fbe East Midlands Awards 2019 have revealed the shortlist of finalists, which includes projects and individuals from Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland.
Taking place on 24th October at the Albert Hall in Nottingham, the Chairman’s Awards Dinner recognises and rewards some of the best schemes in the construction, property and development sector in the region, along with the industry’s brightest young stars.
Guest speaker at the event – which has Samsung as its headline sponsor – is actor, musician, weather presenter and coach Des Coleman.
For the first time, this year’s Residential Award category has been divided into two sections – small and large schemes – in response to the number of nominations.
The shortlisted schemes in the large Residential Award are:
- The Wullcomb, Leicester, a 297-apartment scheme, nominated by Franklin Ellis Architects
- Winwood Heights, Nottingham, a new retirement complex consisting of the refurbishment and remodelling of two existing tower blocks (180 flats), together with 44 new build extra-care apartments, nominated by architects Halsall Lloyd Partnership
- Rufford Pastures, Edwinstowe, 67 properties, ranging from 2,3,4 and 5 bedroom homes, nominated by developer Woodhead Homes
The shortlisted schemes in the small projects for the Residential Award are:
- The renovation and extension of Garden Cottage, Top Street, Wing, Rutland, a fire-damaged Grade II listed building dating from 1668, nominated by Corporate Architecture Ltd
- A project at a house in Dovedale Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, nominated by AM2 Architects Ltd
- A replacement dwelling at Main Street, Scothern, Lincoln, nominated by AM2 Architects Ltd
The finalists in the Non-Residential Award are:
- Urban high wire attraction Altitude44, Skegness in Lincolnshire, nominated by civil and structural engineers BSP Consulting and architects LK2
- Southwell Racecourse Flood Alleviation Scheme, Southwell in Nottinghamshire, nominated by Ardent Consulting Engineers
- A refurbishment and remodelling in Haymarket Shopping Centre to create Haymarket Health – Sexual Health Clinic, Leicester, nominated by J Tomlinson
The finalists in the Regeneration Award are:
- Winwood Heights, Chestnut Walk, Nottingham, a new retirement complex consisting of the refurbishment and remodelling of two existing tower blocks (180 flats), together with 44 new build extra-care apartments, nominated by architects Halsall Lloyd Partnership
- The Grade II listed Birkin Building, Lace Market, Nottingham, which has provided creative space and leisure use to a variety of tenants, nominated by property developer Spenbeck
- Trent Basin, Nottingham Waterside, a new neighbourhood within Nottingham’s Waterside regeneration area which will deliver 350 homes over a number of phases, nominated by developer Blueprint
The finalists in the Rising Star Award, sponsored by J Tomlinson, are:
- Graduate consultant Carrie Young, from project managers and cost consultants Pulse Consult
- Chartered architect Daniel Marlow, from architects Halsall Lloyd Partnership
- Assistant consultant Haidar Jabbar, from project managers and cost consultants Pulse Consult
Regional director of the fbe East Midlands Nic Jepson, of InLine Property Consultants, said: “We had a huge variety in the range of projects nominated this year, including record numbers of housing developments, which is why we split the residential category. The judges have been very impressed with the calibre of entrants and we look forward to revealing the winners of the fbe East Midlands Awards 2019 later this month.”
Headline sponsor for the event is Samsung, with Ardent Consulting Engineers sponsoring the Prosecco and Programme, and J Tomlinson sponsoring the Rising Star Award.
Just a few tickets remain for the black-tie event, priced £55 for members, £80 for non-members and £750 for a table of ten.
Nottingham-based charity, Footprints Conductive Education Centre, has been chosen as this year’s good cause to be supported at the Chairman’s Award Dinner. Footprints is dedicated to helping children with motor learning difficulties or motor development delay and supporting their families.
