Popular Derbyshire farm shop Croots will be opening the gates to the farm on Sunday 12th June as part of a nationwide event to showcase British farming.
LEAF Open Farm Sunday is the farming industry’s national open day, with hundreds of farms throwing open their gates to give the public the chance to find out more about where their food comes from.
Among them is Farnah House Farm, Wirksworth Road near Duffield – the home of the award-winning Croots Farm Shop.
The farm will be open to visitors free of charge between 11am and 4pm on Sunday 12th June but the free tickets need to be booked in advance via the Croots Farm Shop website to help with numbers.
A range of activities, displays and events has been lined up to highlight what goes on behind the scenes of a farm, including sheep shearing, blacksmithing and a butchery display.
Meet the sheep and lambs, shire horses and foals. There will be food and drink stalls, the opportunity to look at farm machinery, take a walk along the farm’s nature trail and enjoy a BBQ.
Admission is free but Croots is asking for donations to its chosen local charities.
Kay Croot, who run Croots Farm Shop, and who grew up at Farnah House Farm where her parents Jim and Sue Yates have farmed since the 1960s, said: “We’ve taken part in Open Farm Sunday for several years but were forced to take a hiatus due to Covid so we’re very much looking forward to welcoming visitors in person once again.
“We’re very fortunate to work in such a beautiful spot and are keen to share more about how we get food from farm to fork. Open Farm Sunday is the perfect opportunity for families to find out more about farming, learn more about where their food comes from, and to see farm animals and farm machinery up close.”
This year’s Open Farm Sunday is showcasing farming’s commitment to producing nutritious food more sustainably, with the focus on health.
